Your health and safety is our first priority. Since the day we closed our doors, we have worked with top Ottawa public health officials, as well as Hockey Eastern Ontario and the Ontario Women’s Hockey Association, in order to ensure that we can all return to play safely.

Every patron entering a Sensplex facility must fill out this form on the exact day and in advance of their activity.

What To Expect

We want to provide the safest facility environment possible while also providing the best experience within the building and on the playing surfaces. Here’s how we’re doing it:

We want to keep you safe while making it easy to enjoy the sport you love. For your health & safety, we have altered our facility amenities until further notice.

On-Ice Group Sizes

* Beginning November 7th, a maximum of 25 people associated with each rental will be permitted on the ice or bench area at a given time (including participants, coaches, managers, etc.). *

Participant Protocols

ENTERING THE FACILITY
  • Any participant, coach, or spectator may NOT enter a Sensplex facility if:
    • They are displaying any COVID-19 symptoms
    • They have come in close physical contact with a person who was confirmed or probable case of COVID-19
    • They are returning from another country within the last 14 days.
    • They have attended an event or gathering (including sports tournament) other than those which are permitted under Ontario’s current re-opening phase.
    • OR, if a household member meets the criteria above.
  • Every participant must wear a mask until they are leaving their staging area, to go on to the ice.
  • Everyone will be screened upon entry (self-assessment or by staff member)
    • If a participant is feeling unwell, they should not attend an activity, and instead, contact your activity organizer to arrange an alternate session.
    • If a participant has underlying conditions that may cause COVID-19 symptoms to be displayed (ex. seasonal allergies or asthma), they should notify program staff in advance.
  • Physical distancing must be maintained at all times.
    • There will be zero tolerance for violation of physical distancing. Participants who fail to adhere to physical distancing will be removed from the activity immediately.
    • For minors, a parent/guardian must be available at all times who is able to receive a participant at the conclusion of an activity, or if they must leave during an activity.
  • Any participant who becomes ill or exhibits possible COVID-19 symptoms during the activity, must:
    • Stop the activity.
    • Leave the playing surface.
    • Wear a non-medical mask until they are able to leave the facility (which should be as soon as possible).
    • Coaches/instructors will report the incident to facility management.
  • Each group is permitted to get dressed/undressed in the designated dressing rooms; however, the organizer should take into consideration the make-up of the group (e.g. age, gender, etc.) before deciding if the group wishes to have participants arrive to the facility in full equipment or not.
    • Each participant will have a dedicated, sanitized area to prepare for their activity.
    • With a limited number of people permitted in each dressing room, due to physical distancing, some participants will be required to get dressed/undressed outside the room on chair. Please plan accordingly to guarantee that participants are not inappropriately undressed in the hallway.
    • If a participant requires help getting dressed, they are required to enter the facility fully-dressed with the exception of skates, gloves and helmet.
      • Parents/guardians are able to assist their participants with skate tying at their designated dressing room seat. Once skates are tied, parents/guardians are asked to proceed to the designated spectator areas.
    • Coaches will be required to sit on the chairs located outside of their rooms, if rooms are full.
    • Spectators will not be permitted into this area unless their participant requires assistance.
PRIOR TO THE ACTIVITY
  • Activity leaders will come to preparation area (dressing room or bench), and guide participants on to the ice.
  • Participants (for minors, a parent/guardian) will be required to complete an acknowledgement of facility rules, prior to participation
DURING THE ACTIVITY
  • DO NOT spit
  • DO NOT blow your nose without a tissue or paper towel
  • DO NOT remove any equipment – full equipment (including player gloves) must be worn at all times.
  • DO NOT touch any equipment (ex. Cones) unless instructed to do so by a coach/instructor
  • DO label water bottles clearly with participant’s name, and leave water bottle in designate area.
AFTER THE ACTIVITY
  • At the end of a session, coaches/instructors will indicate the completion of the session to all participants. Participants should then:
    • STOP and maintain their distance from others.
    • Follow direction of coaches on how to exit the playing surface.’
    • While maintaining physical distancing, return to preparation area to collect shoes and bag if applicable.
    • Showering is not permitted.
  • Participants and spectators should then exit the facility immediately through the dedicated exit.
    • Groups must vacate the dressing rooms within 15min of getting off the ice.
    • Participants and spectators cannot remain in the building for any reason.
  • It is highly recommended that water bottles and outer gear (pants, jerseys, etc.) be washed and sanitized between uses.
  • Participants must wear a mask after their ice session, while exiting the building.

Spectator Protocols

*Please note that spectators are not permitted in the facility, but every participant under the age of 18 can be accompanied by one (1)parent/guardian.  That parent/guardian must be the individual listed in the filled out online screening questionnaire.*

    • They are returning from another region where the activity is not yet permitted, within the last 14 days. (this includes “regional” restrictions)
    • They are returning from another country
    • They have attended an event or gathering (including sports tournament) other than those which are permitted under Ontario’s current re-opening phase
    • OR, if a household member meets the criteria above
  • Everyone will be screened upon entry (self-assessment or by staff member)
    • If a spectator is feeling unwell, they should not attend an activity, and instead, contact your activity organizer to arrange an alternate session.
  • Physical distancing must be maintained at all times. 
    • There will be zero tolerance for violation of physical distancing. Spectators who fail to adhere to physical distancing will be removed from the activity immediately. 
    • For minors, a parent/guardian must be available at all times who is able to receive a participant at the conclusion of an activity, or if they must leave during an activity. 
  • A mask must be worn inside the Sensplex at all times
  • A maximum of 1 parent/guardian per participant (only parents/guardians who accompany a participant may spectate). Small children may also accompany each parent/guardian.

PRIOR TO THE ACTIVITY

  •  Spectators will have designated viewing areas for physical distancing 
    • After arrival, and potential assistance of a participant, spectators should proceed to the viewing area.
    • This area will be inside the arena, so spectators should dress appropriately. 

DURING THE ACTIVITY

  • DO remain in designated viewing areas to watch activity, while maintaining physical distancing at all times.
  • DO keep your mask on AT ALL TIMES in the facility.

AFTER THE ACTIVITY

  • Participants and spectators should exit the facility immediately through the dedicated exit.
    • Participants and spectators cannot remain in the building for any reason.

Scrimmage Rules

  • The following is a set of modified rules for private groups who are partaking in any 3on3, 4on4 or 5on5 shinny, pick-up game, scrimmage, etc. to help ensure a safe and physically-distanced ice time:
    • NO battles anywhere on the ice (especially in front of the net and in corners)
    • NO crashing the net
    • NO more than one person may go into the corners at a time
    • NO face-offs
    • NO intentional contact
    • Keep AT LEAST a stick lengths from all other players
  • Modified 3on3/4on4/5on5 scrimmages are permitted ONLY if your group is sanctioned by HEO, OWHA, Ringette Ontario or another recognized sanctioning body.
